LSU’s XR Studio is comprised of a cutting-edge real-time visualization center, XR laboratory, performance venues, and a virtual production film studio.
Current projects include digital twins and simulations including NASA advanced manufacturing, biomedical training simulations, and electron microscopy training; motion capture and animation, spatial audio and experimental music, XR / AR / VR content creation, game design and production, image based lighting, human-computer interaction, virtual production, and spatial audio.
The XR Studio will gain a 4,800 square foot expansion in the fall of 2024, read more about it here!
Our events also perform in several other venues across campus, including the Digital Media Center Theatre, which features a Meyer Sound Constellation and Cinema System, in addition to the Virtual Production sound stage.
The studio has become a collaborative hub used by undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students from across campus, including digital art, computer science, engineering, electronic music, film, theatre, dance, and humanities.
The studio features extensive performance, visualization, motion tracking, recording, scanning, and lighting equipment, as well as a 22’x 10’ LED wall configured to run real-time digital environments in engines such as Unreal or Unity, or 3D or video content from any software package.
The virtual production sound stage includes a volume control suite with workstations in Rendering, Capture, Tracking, Real-Time Compositing, and Lighting, multiple cinema camera systems, DMX lighting configured for lighting directly from a real-time 3D environment, five industry standard editing and post-processing stations, and more.
