Germane
LSU Virtual Production, Fall 2025
Germane is a cyberpunk short film created in the Fall 2025 Virtual Production class. Students worked in teams organized by production category to write, storyboard, and plan the film, then to build scenery, props, costumes, and makeup, and to handle performance, direction, and production.
The class runs on the same structure as a professional production. Every department is student-staffed. Departments hand off to each other on a schedule, and the film is shot on the LED volume with real-time environments driving the lighting on practical sets.
Teaching the full pipeline in one semester means students learn how the departments depend on each other. The set build has to serve the camera. The costume and makeup work has to hold up under the volume's color. The result is a finished film and a class that has worked every position.
