Axolotl Haven teaches axolotl care without stopping the game: every fact arrives as narration, spoken over live play. A player collects a glowing story bubble, the narrator starts, and the swimming continues. The next bubble appears when she finishes. Three chapters carry one animal from a canal in Mexico City to a rescue tank to a living room, and each chapter ends with a checkpoint quiz drawn word for word from what the player just heard.

Why the axolotl

The LSU Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center preserves the cells of aquatic species so populations can be recovered. The axolotl is a case where that work is urgent.

It is also an animal thousands of people keep as a pet, often bought before it is understood.

What the game connects

A player learns why the species is endangered in the wild, then learns how to keep one alive at home. Both halves of the problem sit in one fifteen-minute experience.

Three directions that build on what is already built.

Reach

Meet more visitors

  • A Spanish edition. The axolotl is Mexican and the wild population lives in Mexico City. The clip bank is keyed by identifier, so a translated script and a Spanish narrator drop straight in.
  • Kiosk mode. An attract loop and an automatic reset between players would let the same file run unattended in a museum or aquarium gallery.
  • Printable certificate. The end screen already names the player, the morph, and the score. A print stylesheet turns it into a takeaway.
Depth

Teach more of the science

  • Regeneration. The trait axolotls are most studied for is not yet in the game. It is the strongest bridge from pet care to the laboratory.
  • A cryopreservation chapter. The AGGRC's own work, shown as a fourth world, would close the loop between keeping one animal and saving a species.
  • Water chemistry as a system. Chlorine and temperature are facts now. They could become live variables a player manages across a chapter.
Evidence

Show that it works

  • Pre and post assessment. Fifteen questions already exist. Asking a subset before play would measure what the narration actually teaches.
  • Classroom pilot. Upper elementary through middle school, with a teacher guide keyed to the eighteen facts.
  • A second species. The engine is content-driven. Any animal with a habitat story and a care story fits the same three-chapter shape.
